Curriculum
At Park Primary School we have high expectations of our children. We aim to provide an environment which is safe and secure, so that children develop in confidence and independence, but also a curriculum which is stimulating and with appropriate challenge, so that children are motivated and eager to learn.
We offer a curriculum which is broad, balanced and creative. Lessons are carefully planned to ensure coverage of the National Curriculum, built upon previous learning and to engage children's interest. These will include a range of practical, investigative and more traditional activities designed to meet the needs of different types of learner. There will be some discrete subject teaching and some integrated work. As far as possible, lessons will be taught in a context, so that children can see a purpose in what they are doing.
Children are encouraged to become reflective learners, who are involved in the assessment and evaluation of their own and others' work. They are given time to listen, talk, discuss, debate and value the opinions of others. Sometimes they will work as a whole class, sometimes in ability groups or mixed ability groups, sometimes in pairs or independently. Work is differentiated to cater for the needs of different ability levels and focused support is provided on some occasions to each of these groups.
Termly curriculum newletters outline the work to be covered for each year group. Additionally, meetings are organised at key points in the year, such as transition from Year R to Year 1 or to provide information on specific topics, such as reading or end of key stage tests.
The subjects include:
